Migraines & tension headaches
Your temples throb,
and your whole head feels squeezed by a tight band.
Nagging headaches, a spinning head.
We help your head feel clear and your eyes feel refreshed.
If your MRI is normal but the pain keeps coming back,
it's time to look at blood flow to the brain and the nerves.
Your temples throb,
and your whole head feels squeezed by a tight band.
The room spins when you get up from lying down,
as if the ceiling is going round and round.
Your neck and shoulders feel stiff,
and the pain climbs up to the back of your head.
Your head feels foggy and heavy,
you can't focus, and your vision feels dim.
Headaches and dizziness are mainly caused by a state Korean medicine calls "heat above, cold below." Heat from stress or poor digestion rises and troubles the head, while the belly, hands and feet turn cold and circulation gets blocked.
Also, when the neck and shoulder muscles stiffen and press on the blood vessels and nerves leading to the brain, the brain senses a lack of oxygen and sends out pain signals.
At 당당한의원 대구수성점, we don't just try to make the pain go away. We bring down the heat (fire) gathered in the head and loosen a stiff neck and shoulders to improve blood flow to the brain.
A clearer head and more refreshed eyes are what we aim for, by treating circulation at its root.
We bring down the heat and pressure that have gathered in the head and face.
We clear the residue (blood stagnation) and phlegm-fluid blocking the brain's blood vessels.
We loosen the neck and shoulders to increase the oxygen and nutrients reaching the brain.
The prescription depends on the pattern and cause of your headache.

Cooling the head, easing the body.
I see patients whose tests came back normal but who still don't feel right. I check the state of the body through abdominal diagnosis (pressing on the belly), tongue diagnosis and pulse diagnosis, and I record what I find as numbers so we can compare at the next visit.
With pain, I don't look only at the spot that hurts. I look for the cause in the way your feet meet the ground, the balance of your jaw and the way you walk. When I explain a treatment plan, I also tell you which study, in which journal, it's based on. I believe evidence only counts as evidence if you can check it yourself.
Using pulse diagnosis and body-heat assessment,
we check for "heat above, cold below" and blood stagnation.
We check neck alignment and upper-shoulder muscle tension
to find structural causes.
With herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and bloodletting therapy,
we open up blocked qi and blood flow.
Posture correction and stress management
help you stay comfortable.
A. An MRI shows structural problems such as tumors or bleeding in the brain, but it doesn't show "functional" circulation problems or oversensitive nerves. This is where Korean medicine treatment can help.
A. When misaligned neck vertebrae are pressing on a nerve (cervicogenic headache), the pain tends to ease sooner once Chuna corrects the structure.
A. Yes. We help manage the pain with acupuncture that's safe during pregnancy and gentle herbal medicine that's easy on you and your baby.
