Key points in 30 seconds

  1. The first step is to check whether there's another reason you're low on energy.
  2. If you've been tired for months, get a blood test first.
  3. Boyak is for when tests show nothing wrong but recovery is slow.
  4. Price differences come from which herbs are used and how much — just ask us.
  5. If discomfort continues after you start taking it, don't put up with it; tell us.

What we often hear

  • "Even when I rest, the tiredness doesn't go away."
  • "I'm thinking of getting some boyak. Will it help?"
  • "I have no energy and don't feel like doing anything."

Can restorative herbal medicine (boyak) help when I'm low on energy?

Some people do find it helpful. But there's something to do first — check whether there's another reason you're low on energy.

Few complaints have as wide a range of causes as "I'm tired." If you skip that check before getting boyak prepared, time passes while you miss what really needs to be treated.

Boyak is herbal medicine prescribed to help the body regain its strength.

⚠️ What should be checked first?

Anemia, thyroid, diabetes, liver and kidney function, and the medications you take. If tiredness has continued for months, we recommend getting a blood test first.

This is especially true if you're losing weight without trying, have fevers that come and go, sweat a lot at night, or bruise easily when you didn't before. Signs like these are not something to handle with boyak.

It's also common for sleep quality to drop because of sleep apnea. If you snore heavily, check that first.

Then when is boyak used?

When checks show no particular illness, but recovery is slow. Typical examples are after a serious illness, after surgery, or after pushing yourself too hard for a long time.

Boyak is not medicine to fix something abnormal found in tests. It's meant to support your ability to recover when nothing is abnormal but you're not your old self.

So we don't describe it as something that "cures anything." Old texts contain expressions like "removes all kinds of illness," but that was the writing style of the time, not words to repeat as they are today.

Why do prices vary so much?

Because different herbs are used. In particular, whether an expensive herb is included makes a big difference to the overall price.

Take Gongjindan, for example: an ingredient called musk determines most of its price. Musk is distributed only in small amounts under government control, and by weight it's more expensive than gold. Even medicines with the same name differ in price depending on what's in them and how much.

So rather than comparing prices alone, it's better to ask what's in it. If you ask us, we'll tell you.

How do I take it?

Usually on an empty stomach in the morning, with warm water. It's best to leave some time so it doesn't mix with other food or medicine.

Some people feel a heavy head or an upset stomach for a few days after starting. It usually passes, but if it continues or gets worse, don't just put up with it; tell us. It may not suit your body.

What are the limits of this assessment?

We don't have numbers on how much things change after taking boyak. How much people notice also varies a lot from person to person.

One more note. We won't use phrases like "improves memory" or "boosts immunity." Those go beyond what we can confirm for you.

We prescribe based on test results. The right order is to find out what's lacking, then fill it.

If your tests are normal but you're not recovering, come see us. The right order is to find out what's lacking, then fill it.

Results differ from person to person depending on their condition and the cause.

I see patients whose tests came back normal but who still don't feel right. I check the state of the body through abdominal diagnosis (pressing on the belly), tongue diagnosis and pulse diagnosis, and I record what I find as numbers so we can compare at the next visit. With pain, I don't look only at the spot that hurts. I look for the cause in the way your feet meet the ground, the balance of your jaw and the way you walk. When I explain a treatment plan, I also tell you which study, in which journal, it's based on. I believe evidence only counts as evidence if you can check it yourself.
